Project description
By participating in the Education on the Move programs, primary and secondary school students will be immersed in Sydney's rich migration heritage as they tour some of this city's most fascinating streets. The programs include visits to Sydney's CBD, The Rocks, Darling Harbour and Australian Technology Park.
With access to prestigious precincts and dynamic attractions, the scene is set for interactive learning with a difference. The Sydney Learning Adventure (SLA) tour leaders - known as animators - are highly skilled and energetic, using tactile resources, walking tours and theatre activities to create a contemporary and exciting forum for learning.
SLA have developed 20 tours to complement teachers' annual programs - six of which have been developed in partnership with MHC. Each of these six joint programs take between 90 to 120 minutes to complete and will be in operation from Term 1 2002. On average, the programs cost $6 per student.

Greasing the Wheels (Years 9 & 10)
Examine the significant contribution of migrant workers to the success of former Eveleigh Locomotive Workshops, now preserved as part of the Australian Technology Park.
A Tapestry of Beliefs and Ideals (Years 11 & 12)
Students analyse the wealth of beliefs and ideals underpinning Australia's multicultural and secular society by visiting spiritual institutions.
What will the project achieve?
The Education on the Move Migration Heritage Programs have been written in accordance with curriculum outcomes for the following key learning areas: Human Society and its Environment; Science and Technology; Visual Arts; Personal Development, Health and Physical Exercise; Studies of Religion; Geography and History.
Both students and teachers participating in the schools' program - through a series of interactive and practical exercises - will experience first hand the historic and contemporary migration heritage of Sydney.
The programs also encourage today's young Australians to recognise the valuable contribution made by many migrant communities to our diverse cultural heritage.
