Project description
The exhibition Paesani - The Bayside Italians grew out of a 1998 exhibition that examined the diversity of cultures living in the City of Botany Bay. The Museum decided to implement an exhibition program that would examine the migration heritage of cultural groups that have contributed to our community but whose heritage remained a largely untold and 'hidden' history.
Paesani - The Bayside Italians is the first exhibition in this programme. It examines the growth and contribution of the Italian community in the City of Botany Bay and includes personal stories of migration from the community with their personal photographs and objects on display.
Some of these stories can be found on the MHC website.
The exhibition will close on 17th June 2002 but in May 2003 will be travelling to Hinchinbrook Council in Ingham (Queensland) to be included in their Australian-Italian Festival. If you are interested in hosting the display between these dates please contact the curator, Joanne Sippel.
