From the Back Blocks to the Front Lines

Current project

From the Back Blocks to the Front Lines records and preserves important historical photographs and oral histories of ageing Italian migrants and their families who moved to south-western Sydney. The project included active participation with local communities and documentation of heritage objects.

It culminated in records added to the Migration Heritage Centres' online Belongings exhibition and a photographic exhibition.

This project met a number of Co.As.It.'s objectives by:

• promoting community development and initiatives as well as encouraging involvement in the consultation process and ongoing input in the project; and

• enriching society by promoting the benefits of cultural diversity, in this case, the richness of a culturally diverse community who settled in south-western Sydney.

The exhibition is at the Co.As.It. Centre, Harris Park ahead of other New South Wales venues.

From the Back Blocks to the Front Lines is a Migration Heritage Centre partnership project with Co.As.It Italian Heritage and the Community Relations Commission.
