My Own Boss

A souvenir booklet entitled My Own Boss: Migrant Miners At Lightning Ridge was produced by the Centre in partnership with the Lightning Ridge Historical Society.

Lightning Ridge is located in the outback, 75 km north of Walgett, with a population of 1,800. The Society is active and had  been keen to work with the NSW Migration Heritage Centre for a number of years. Barbara Moritz, President of the Society, researched and wrote the booklet in close consultation with Stephen Thompson, the Centre’s Movable Heritage Officer. It was designed by the Powerhouse Museum.

The booklet will raise the profile of the Historical Society’s significant mining collection, provenanced to migrant miners. It is being distributed across Lighting Ridge tourist facilities, including the Opal and Fossil Centre, and in Walgett. An associated on-line version has been produced for the Centre’s website.
