Lebanese Settlement

This thematic study by Paul Convy and Dr Anne Monsour was researched for the Australian Lebanese Historical Society and was funded by Department of Planning (NSW) and the NSW Migration Heritage Centre.

The Australian Lebanese Historical Society study identified and explored places in NSW where Lebanese migrants have settled, acknowledging their integral role in the growth and development of the State.

The project identified significant places for possible heritage nominations.

The Society is using the study to document community-managed collections across NSW and record migration memories and family owned memorabilia in the context of the history.  The project draws upon historical research from the recent State Records NSW project, in partnership with the Society, tracing the history of Lebanese communities in the State back to 1865.
