Fleeing to Sweden

This album documents the 1944 Russian air raids that destroyed Estonian cities, including the capital Tallinn. It also shows the flight to Sweden. The last day on which Estonians were able to escape Soviet rule was 22 September 1944. Almost 10 000 fled to Sweden, often in small boats, across the perilous Baltic Sea.
